Hello, my lovelies,
today I’d like to share with you some details about my next longterm project.
I’ve been hesitant about it, to be honest. Mainly because it’s still in its very first stages and I really don’t have anything to show you yet. But then I thought „Why not share it already?“. It’s also a way for me to get my ass in gear and work slowly but surely on this project.
After the completion of my comic Last thoughts of a dead man, it was clear to me that I wanted to do another comic. Even though the whole process of the first one was time-consuming and also quite an emotional ordeal at times, I am still proud that I went through with it. And telling stories in the form of a comic is something that appeals to me. There are still a lot of different stories I’d like to tell in the form of comics, original ones as well as based on existing materials (fan comics). And I thought about what to do as my next comic for quite a while. What appeals to me the most? What do I feel very strongly about? As much as I love my own characters, I decided to go for a fan comic.
Nox ruit semper – a Tanz der Vampire fan comic
And there it is, black on white. My next comic will be a fan comic set in the Tanz der Vampire universe. The working title is Nox ruit semper, which translates to And forever the night falls.
I’m currently in the middle of writing the script. I mean that quite literally. I started in the middle of the story and am writing the end first before adding the beginning. A bit confusing maybe, but the scene I started with was the one I had clearly in my mind.
So what’s it about? Without spoiling you too much, it’s set in 1617 when everything went downhill according to „Die unstillbare Gier“. And I always wondered what Krolock’s first kill might have looked like. And his turning. What had happened to him? How did he become a vampire? And that’s what the comic will show. My take on it, at least.
The road ahead
Here’s what’s still for me to do:
- Finishing the script
- Character Design: Human Krolock and Krolock’s wife
- Research and studies of 17th-century clothes
- Studies of castles and other architecture
- Thumbnails/page layouts
- Final page drawings
- Colors / ink washes / shading
I haven’t decided yet if I want to make it a full-color comic or leave it at greyscales. We’ll see about that when I’m at the stage to make a final decision. I also have a little epilogue in my head, which I’m inclined to draw before the actual comic, in order to test out the look of the entire comic.
My patrons will get to read all the pages before everyone else. And they’ll also get the latest update on the process of this project. So if you want to be among the first to see this project and its development, consider becoming a patron on Patreon. For 1$ per month, you’ll get instant access to my feed.
I haven’t set myself a deadline for this project, but I’d like to get all the necessary prep work done in the course of the year. Since this is a labour of love of my fangirl self, paid work always comes first. But I’ll try to work on it as much as I can.
And that’s all for now. I’m really excited about this project.
Until next time and stay creative,
