Tomorrow the year will end already. And like every year it passed way too quickly. A lot has happened the last 12 months. The move to a new city and starting my freelance career have been the most exciting events this year. I have learned a lot and met interesting new people. 2016 hasn’t been boring at all.

With a new year coming up shortly it’s time to make New Year’s resolutions and plans for the upcoming year.

52 WoL – Week 51: Merry Christmas

By | 52 Weeks of Lettering | No Comments

It’s the most wonderful and for a lot of people the most stressful time of the year: Christmas. Maybe your tree is already decorated or your have to do some last minute christmas shopping. Whatever you still need to do, I wish you a lot of patience and serenity for the tasks.

I’ll be driving home to my family for Christmas today. Something I’ve been looking forward a lot in the past weeks. Decorating the tree, a family dinner and cozyness included.

However you’ll spend your Christmas days, I wish you a wonderful time with the people who you love and that matter most to you.

Merry Christmas,
Meike

52 WoL – Week 49: There’s only one way, your way.

To enter unknown territory is a unique challenge. Uncertainty creeps into our heads and of course we’re looking towards people, who have gone before us on the path we want to take to avoid their mistakes. That’s absolutely normal and useful. But after a while we need to find our own way to get to our destination or we end up as imitators of our idols. Because we learn mainly by copying.

52 WoL – Week 48: Never give up!

By | 52 Weeks of Lettering | No Comments

The end of the year approaches rapidly. You have achieved more than you might think. Walked on new paths, have grown with your challenges and overcame some obstacles and failures.

Even if the situation may look dreadful right now, don’t give up. Don’t let your dreams get destroyed by naysayers and narrow-minded people. You can achieve anything, you’ve set your mind to. Maybe not today or tomorrow but in the long run.

Never give up!

Wie wir unsere Tage verbringen, so verbringen wir natürlich auch unser Leben

52 Wol – Week 47: How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lifes

By | 52 Weeks of Lettering | No Comments

There are days that are completely for the bin. On these days you turn on your tunnel vision and just get the tasks on your desks done. At the end of the day you’ll probably don’t remember what you’ve done all day long but at least you’ve got everything done. It’s totally alright if that happens every once in awhile. There are always hectic workdays. But if this state become the status quo for weeks or months and one wonders why it’s already fall again, something is seriously wrong.

52 WoL – Week 46: It doesn’t matter where you start. Only that you begin.

By | 52 Weeks of Lettering | No Comments

In the course of this lettering challenge I’ve written more than once about how hard starting something new is. With every new project, no matter if it’s personal or work related, sooner or later doubts and fears will pop into our heads. Sometimes it’s easier to silence these negative voices, but at other times it isn’t. But more often than we’d like to admit, we’ll get cozy in our comfort zones instead of heading into unknown territory.

Challenges can be a great way to expand your comfort zone and try out something new. This year’s Inktober challenge by Jake Parker helped me to get out of my comfort zone.

Der schönste Tag meines Lebens

52 WoL – Week 45: Today is the best day of my life

By | 52 Weeks of Lettering | No Comments

Our everyday life is often hectic. We are rushing from deadlines to presentations, write a few mails in between and eat lunch at the warm glow of our computer screen, instead of getting out of the office for a break. After closing time the rush continues with personal commitments of all kinds; family, working out, volunteering and everything in between.

And when we’ve finally got to the end of our To Do – list, our brain is still working overtime. It’s the time when thoughts are roaming freely in our heads. The mind drifts into the past und ponders uncomfortable situations. Or it wanders to the future, plans the next holiday trip or big investments like buying a house or maybe even starting a new career. Whether it’s draining or energizing both types of ruminations don’t have any meaning because only the here and now is tangible.
